A two-day webinar organized by The Well-being, Ecology, Gender and cOmmunity – Innovation Training Network (WEGO) together with the ONG Society for Promoting Participative Ecosystem Management (SOPPECOM) based in Pune, India, on how the interconnected spheres of FPE and agroecology can inform each other.

The practice and politics of agroecology and feminist political ecology share many concerns. For instance, they both highlight: how the exploitation of agrarian environments goes hand in hand with forms of marginalisation; the role of women (and other often marginalised actors) in preserving traditional seeds, farming practices and knowledges; socio-ecological power-dynamics that impact landscapes, farmers and more-than-human beings; as well as the need to give voice to grassroot initiatives to create more liveable agrarian futures. In this 2-day webinar, on 20 and 21 November 2024 (13:00-16:30 CET), we draw on the knowledge of activists, practitioners and academics based in different parts of the world to understand how the interconnected spheres of agroecology and FPE can inform each other. We will also explore how this relationship evolves in practice across different spaces, including activist movements and grassroot initiatives, governance, agricultural practices and academic contexts. The workshop emerges from years of collaborations between early career and senior feminist researchers and activists working on agroecology, farming, food and water from feminist perspectives in the Indian context. Inspired by these collaborations, the workshop invites young scholars and activists working on agrarian transformations through a feminist approach from India and other geographical contexts to share and learn across different locations and experiences.
